Business and Civic
Alliance Board
Mission/Purpose of
the Board:
The
purpose of the Strong
Area Business and
Civic Alliance is to
promote a durable
partnership between
local businesses and
the residents of
Strong, to build a
strong business
climate and create
long term economic
and civic leadership
health for the
community.
Primary Goals of the
Board:
By Dec.,2006,
increase the
awareness of the
number of local
businesses in Strong
and encourage people
to shop locally.
By 2007, SABACA
will be successful at
attracting new
businesses to the
community.
By 2008, Increase the
level of community
activity and
involvement in
promoting Strong,
developing a positive
image of Strong as a
vital community.
Funding Sources and
Legal Authority:
Funding for the
Organization is
derived primarily
from membership dues. SABACA is
incorporated as a
nonprofit
organization, with
501(c)(6)
tax exempt status
from the IRS.
Major Issues:
Major issue facing
SABACA at this time
is organizational
development.
As a new
nonprofit
organization, we are
attempting to build
an effective board
while at the same
time develop and
deliver services and
benefits to our
members.
Participation
on the board,
committees, and help
with projects
is needed.
Types of Members
We’re Looking
For (Skills, Values,
Representation of a
Specific Group, etc.)
SABACA is looking for
members with interest
in community and
economic development.
One or more of
the following skills
will be an asset to
the Board:
business/community
development, finance,
family issues,
fund-raising, public
participation and
relations, or
communications.
Roles Available on
the Board:
Currently there are
six vacancies on the
board of directors
that will need to be
filled.
A nominating
committee has been
established, with a
permanent board
seated at the
organization's
January 9, 2008
Annual Meeting.
Expectations of you
as a Member:
Plan to commit 8-10
hours a month. We
expect regular board
meeting attendance,
active participation,
representation of
SABACA views, and knowledge of
the community and
business climate.
We meet
monthly on the
second Wednesday.
The strength
of the Board lies in
member participation
derived from
involvement in SABACA
activities. Members
will be asked
to help develop ideas,
report problems,
devise solutions,
relay information,
and listen to area
residents. Each
member
is also asked
to serve on one or
more committees.
